Ryanair – Stansted – 2011

On October 24th, 2011, a Ryanair flight, travelling from Stansted to Riga in Latvia, was aborted 20 minutes after takeoff when tape used to mend a cockpit window came unstuck and started to make alarming noises, a passenger has said. The tape had been fastened around the edges of the windscreen in the cockpit by ground crew shortly before take-off, he claims. According to the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA), it was being used as an extra precaution to secure a new window seal on the plane.

On 31 July 2009, a Ryanair plane rejected take off at high speed, because there was a car on the runway. The plane stopped safely ahead of the car. The car appeared to belong to a bird control official, who was inspecting the runway. It seems that there was misunderstanding between the car driver and the control tower.

On 6 April 2009, A Ryanair plane had an engine failure while enroute overhead Amsterdam and diverted to Amsterdam wher it landed safely. A replacement plane was dispatched from Stansted.

On 14 July 2008, a Ryanair plane was waiting on the Graz airport that a thunderstorm had passed, when smoke appeared in the cabin. The passengers were evacuated and had to wait for a replacement aircraft which arrived at London with a delay over 10 hours. Engineers suspect a fault in the air conditioning system as cause of the smoke.

On 17 May 2008, a Ryanair plane performing flight from Carcassonne (France) to London Stansted (UK), struck a building with its left wing while taxiing for takeoff.
No serious damage was reported. A replacement aircraft took off with a delay of more than 10 hours.

Easyjet – London Stansted – 2007

On 18 January 2007, an Easyjet plane flying from Belfast to London has made an emergency landing in Liverpool Airport. Air traffic controllers at John Lennon Airport received a call from the pilot on Thursday warning he was low on fuel, the airport said. However, Easyjet said the diversion was due to high winds en route to London and that there was no shortage of fuel.
A spokesman for Stansted Airport said the Easyjet flight was the only divert the airport had had.

On 1 November 2005, a Ryanair plane flying from Tampere (Finland) to London diverted to Malmo (Sweden) after the aircraft developped a technical problem. No more information was given by the company, the passengers took a replacement plane.

On 23 March 2005, an Easyjet plane going to London had to turn  and land back to Belfast, after the captain realised there was smoke in the cockpit. The passengers did not get information before landing and had to take a replacement aircraft.

On february 2002, as a fire broke out on a Ryanair jet at Stansted Airport, 4 passengers were injured in the evacuation. The report found that cabin crew was not properly trained in emergency door evacuation.

On 10 April 2001, a Ryanair plane flying to London had to land back shortly after take off at Tirstrup Airport (Denmark) after a drop in cabin pressure. A spokesperson for Ryanair indicated that the aircraft had technical difficulties that were being inspected by maintenance engineers.

Easyjet – London Stansted – 2009

On 15 September 2009, an Easyjet airplane flying from Naples to London Stansted experienced several technical problems which led to cancel the flight until the day after. It was first a problem of generators while passegers were waiting in the overheated cabin, then oxygen masks dropped so the crew made the passengers to disembark. Then, the airport closed dur to bad weather conditions.

On 19 August 2009, a Ryanair plane going to London rejected the take off on Sevilla airport after an emergency exit door was suddenly indicated open. Finally, the door was securely closed but the passengers had to disembark and wait for a replacement plane, which reached London with 7 hours’ delay.
