Ryanair – London Stansted – 2009

On 31 July 2009, a Ryanair plane rejected take off at high speed, because there was a car on the runway. The plane stopped safely ahead of the car. The car appeared to belong to a bird control official, who was inspecting the runway. It seems that there was misunderstanding between the car driver and the control tower.

On 5 July 2009, 160 passengers were waiting to embark on a Ryanair plane to leave Marrakech to London. But damages caused by a bird required several mechanics, even one coming from Barcelona. It took 36h before passengers, who have been left waiting in the airport, could start their journey. The passengers were really angry because Ryanair only gave them a 5€ voucher to buy a sandwich and a bottle of water, while the temperature was about 40°C.

On 6 April 2009, A Ryanair plane had an engine failure while enroute overhead Amsterdam and diverted to Amsterdam wher it landed safely. A replacement plane was dispatched from Stansted.

On 14 July 2008, a Ryanair plane was waiting on the Graz airport that a thunderstorm had passed, when smoke appeared in the cabin. The passengers were evacuated and had to wait for a replacement aircraft which arrived at London with a delay over 10 hours. Engineers suspect a fault in the air conditioning system as cause of the smoke.

Flybe – London Gatwick – 2009

On 4 April 2009, a Flybe plane flying from Newcastle,EN to London Gatwick,EN (UK), declared emergency reporting unspecified technical problems shortly after takeoff from Newcastle and returned to Newcastle, where the airplane landed safely 13 minutes after takeoff.
The airplane was repaired, set off again for the flight and reached London Gatwick with a delay of 2 hours.

On 12 July 2008, an Easyjet plane coming from Corfu (Greece) and going to Gatwick, had to divert to Geneva airport because of a smell of smoke in the rear toilet. It seems there was a fire in the rear toilet, which was put out by flight attendants. The cause of the fire was not known.

On 3 May 2008, a Ryanair plane had to return to Brno after it ingested a bird into one of its engines during initial climb out.

On 6 April 2008, an Easyjet aircraft taking 119 people from Athens to London, had to turn back for an emergency landing because one of the engins caught fire. No one was injured but passegers get very scared.

Ryanair – London Stansted – 2008

On 17 May 2008, a Ryanair plane performing flight from Carcassonne (France) to London Stansted (UK), struck a building with its left wing while taxiing for takeoff.
No serious damage was reported. A replacement aircraft took off with a delay of more than 10 hours.

Flybe – London Gatwick – 2009

On 15 January 2009, a Flybe plane flying from Aberdeen,SC to London Gatwick,EN (UK), declared emergency reporting “ice-blue smoke” emanating from a sink after a flying attendant poured water in it. The plane landed safely in Newcastle. A replacement aircraft resumed the flight and delivered the passengers to Gatwick with more than 3 hours delay.

On 21 December 2007, an Easyjet flying from Dortmund to London Luton had declare emergency and speed up arrival after smoke developed in the cabin.

Easyjet – London Stansted – 2007

On 18 January 2007, an Easyjet plane flying from Belfast to London has made an emergency landing in Liverpool Airport. Air traffic controllers at John Lennon Airport received a call from the pilot on Thursday warning he was low on fuel, the airport said. However, Easyjet said the diversion was due to high winds en route to London and that there was no shortage of fuel.
A spokesman for Stansted Airport said the Easyjet flight was the only divert the airport had had.

On 1 November 2005, a Ryanair plane flying from Tampere (Finland) to London diverted to Malmo (Sweden) after the aircraft developped a technical problem. No more information was given by the company, the passengers took a replacement plane.

On 25 October 2006, an Easyjet plane, operated by Air Finland, flying from Faro to London, had to make an emergency landing at Lisbon airport, due to a technical problem.

On 11 June 2007, a Germanwings plane had to turn back to Hamburg shortly after take off because computers showed an error message, unknown by the pilot. Passengers were flighted to London by a replacement aircraft.

Easyjet – London Stansted – 2005

On 23 March 2005, an Easyjet plane going to London had to turn  and land back to Belfast, after the captain realised there was smoke in the cockpit. The passengers did not get information before landing and had to take a replacement aircraft.

Ryanair – London – 2002

On 27 February 2002, a Ryanair plane flying from Dublin to London made an emergency landing at Stansted Airport after a fire broke out one of the engine’s jet. Four of the 124 passengers were hurt in the evacuation as flames and smoke were seen pouring from the jet engine.

On 15 August 2003, an Easyjet aircraft encountered a several hail storme shortly after taking off, which damaged the plane and made the pilot to turn back and land. None of the occupants was injured and passengers disembarked normally.
The conclusions of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau are the followers :
The accident was caused by the aircraft flying into a shower of hail embedded in a thunderstorm cell, following inadequate utilisation of the information provided by the onboard weather radar.
The following factors played a part in the accident:
• shortcomings in crew resource management (CRM);
• no specific meteorological information concerning this hazard was transmitted.

On february 2002, as a fire broke out on a Ryanair jet at Stansted Airport, 4 passengers were injured in the evacuation. The report found that cabin crew was not properly trained in emergency door evacuation.

On 10 April 2001, a Ryanair plane flying to London had to land back shortly after take off at Tirstrup Airport (Denmark) after a drop in cabin pressure. A spokesperson for Ryanair indicated that the aircraft had technical difficulties that were being inspected by maintenance engineers.
