FlyBe – Belfast – 2011
On February 18th 2011, a FlyBe aircraft performing a flight from Belfast to Southampton returned to Belfast after the crew was incapable of retracting the gear following take-off. The airplane landed safely in Belfast. A replacement plane subsequently reached Southampton with 4h20 of delay.

EasyJet – Belfast – 2011
On January 6 2011, an easyJet plane just landed at Belfast airport had to disembark passengers by using its emergency chutes. Just after the landing, while passenger were about to disembark, a smell of smoke has been reported and forced passengers to use emergency chutes.
Flybe – Belfast – 2010
On Mar 25th 2010, A Flybe plane carying 61 passengers and flying from Belfast to Glasgow had a technical problem. It seems that smoke was coming from an engine shortly after takeoff. The crew decided to return to Belfast and landed safely.
Ryanair – Belfast – 2010
On May 11th, 2010, a Ryanair flight from Belfast City Airport to London Stansted had to make a precautionary landing at Belfast City. Ryanair’s 737-8 had to make an emergency landing only 30 minutes after take off. The cabin crew suddenly reported an “acrid smell” in the plane. The plane was one of two that had been left grounded due to the volcanic ash. It was found later that the chemicals used to clean the engines are what caused the smell. The plane finally landed safely.
EasyJet – Belfast – 2009
On 14 November 2009, an Easyjet flight (U2-447) from Bristol to Belfast Aldergrove, aborted the approach to Belfast when the flaps didn’t deploy. The airplane entered a holding to troubleshoot for about 30 minutes, however the crew was unable to solve the problem, declared emergency and performed a safe zero flaps landing on runway 25, taxied off the runway and had the emergency services check the brakes on the taxiway.

Flybe – Belfast – 2008
On 1 August 2008, a Flybe flight from Manchester to Belfast, has been forced to make an emergency landing on the Isle of Man, after the crew reported smelling smoke. The 89 passengers on board had to escape via the emergency chutes. the likely cause of the incident seems to be a failure of the air conditionning system.

Jet2 – Belfast – 2008
On 5 October 2008, as a Jet2 plane was on the landing roll at Belfast airport, the control tower observed smoke coming from the landing gear. The aircraft was stopped on the runway, a quick assessment of the situation by fire brigades determined no danger and the aircraft taxied to the gate, where passengers disembarked normally.
The airport was briefly closed due to the incident.

On 15 August 2007, a Flybe plane flying from Birmingham to George Best Belfast City Airport was struck by lightning and forced to make a diversion to Manchester, where the plane landed safely. The passengers continue their journey on a replacement aircraft.

On 23 May 2007, the passengers of a flybe plane going to Belfast had to change aeroplanes 3 times and were then divertes to another airport, before finally get back to Belfast four hours behind schedule. The first plane did not have enought seats, the second had technical problem, the third took off so late it could not land at Belfast airport which was closed.They ended their journey by bus.

On 10 December 2006, A Flybe plane flying from Edinburg to Belfast City, encountered multiple instrument failures shortly before reaching FL160 after takeoff while climbing through heavy precipitation in icy conditions, the failures consistent with freezing of the pitot/static ports. A emergency was declared and the airplane descended to FL80, where instrument operations returned to normal. The flight was then continued to Belfast.
The AAIB concluded, that a switch to turn the standby pitot heating on was missed and in the OFF position and turned on later while going through the various icing checklists, though both pilots claim, the switch was on and they did not move the switch.

On 12 December 2002, a Flybe plane flying from Birmingham to Belfast encountered severe and unexpected movements while enroute. The crew radioed they had an emergency. The plane landed safely ansd on time but 4 people were injured.
