Leave a Comment On 31 July 2009, a Ryanair plane rejected take off at high speed, because there was a car on the runway. The plane stopped safely ahead of the car. The car appeared to belong to a bird control official, who was inspecting the runway. It seems that there was misunderstanding between the car driver and the control tower.
Ryanair – Shannon – 2009
On 25 July 2009, a RYANAIR pilot diverted his aircraft from Shannon airport to Cork airport following three unsuccessful attempts to land at Shannon. The Ryanair spokeswoman said the reason the pilot did not land in Shannon and instead flew to Cork was because of adverse weather conditions.
However the airport authority said no other aircraft had difficulty landing and that another Ryanair flight landed just minutes before. Several passengers left the flight at Cork, but those who remained on-board were flown back to Shannon shortly before 2am instead of 23h50.
Ryanair – London – 2009
On 5 July 2009, 160 passengers were waiting to embark on a Ryanair plane to leave Marrakech to London. But damages caused by a bird required several mechanics, even one coming from Barcelona. It took 36h before passengers, who have been left waiting in the airport, could start their journey. The passengers were really angry because Ryanair only gave them a 5€ voucher to buy a sandwich and a bottle of water, while the temperature was about 40°C.
Ryanair – Krakow – 2009
On 15 June 2009, a Ryanair plane encountered turbulence about 40mn after the departure and was struck by a lightning. The plane diverted to Frankfurt Hahn (Germany) where it landed safely. The passengers took a replacement aircraft and reached Krakow with 3 hours delay.

Leave a Comment On 6 April 2009, A Ryanair plane had an engine failure while enroute overhead Amsterdam and diverted to Amsterdam wher it landed safely. A replacement plane was dispatched from Stansted.
Easyjet – London Gatwick – 2009
On 14 April 2009, an Easyjet plane coming from Heraklion and going to Gatwick, had to divert to Athens airport because of pressurization problems, due to the air conditionning system. The passenger oxygen masks did not deploy and the pilot performed a safe landing.
Ryanair – Dublin – 2009
On 13 March 2009, a Ryanair plane going to Dublin, returned to Gdansk after a burning smell developed in the cockpit during climb. The airplane landed safely amidst a full emergency response by the airport about 30 minutes after takeoff. Emergency services could not find any source of heat or fire using thermal imaging.
A replacement aircraft was dispatched to Gdansk and brought the passengers to Dublin with a delay of close to 6 hours.
Easyjet – Milan – 2008
On 15 December 2008, an Easyjet plane had just departed from Paris Charles de Gaulle when the creww receibed a message indicating that the gear doors remained opened. Upon reaching 1500 feet the green hydraulics system showed a low reservoir level and issued a low pressure warning. While performing the checklist for this failure the crew received an indication, that the yellow hydraulics system’s reservoir showed overheat. The pilot requested to land back to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.
Britain’s Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) released their report into the serious incident stating, that the flexible hose for the left main gear door close actuator was found damaged and leaking. The hose was replaced. Upon further inspection the left main gear door open hose was found worn, too, and was replaced, the hydraulics system replenished and tested successfully.
Ryanair – Dusseldorf (Germany) – 2009
On 11 March 2009, a Ryanair plane, flying from Barcelona-Girona (Spain) to usseldorf (Germany), had to return to the departure airport 15mn after leaving, because an engine fire alert was activated. The plane landed safely and passengers took a replacement aircraft.
Ryanair confirmed, that flight returned to Barcelona shortly after take off as a precaution when a cockpit indicator light suggested that there may be a technical issue. Engineers determined that the indication was faulty and replaced the indication system.
Ryanair – Brussels – 2009
On 16 March 2009, the crew of a Ryanair plane, flying from Prestwick, SC (UK) to Brussels Charleroi (Belgium) initiated a go around declaring emergency reporting possible brakes problem while on approach to Brussels southern Charleroi Airport. The airplane landed safely 45 minutes later.
Easyjet – Porto – 2009
On 18 September 2009, the passengers of an Easyjet flight from Paris to Porto had to wait about 6h30 before taking-off, due to a “technical problem”. They did not get more explanation from the company. The plane finally took off at 19h instead of 12h35.
Ryanair – Shannon – 2009
On 15 February 2009, a Ryanair plane flying from Uk made an emergency landing at the Shannon Airport (Ireland) due to a tyre problem. The plane carried out a low-level fly past over the main runway so that fire crew could visually inspect the landing gear. The plane finally landed safely.
Easyjet – Tallinn (Estonia) – 2008
On 5 August 2008, an Easyjet plane performing flight from London Stansted (UK) to Tallinn (Estonia), had to divert to Berlin Schoenefeld (Germany) due to unspecified technical trouble. The landing was safe.
A replacement aircraft, resumed the flight and arrived in Tallinn with a delay of close to three hours.

Ryanair – Gatwick – 2009
On 7 October 2009, the crew of a Ryanair Boeing 737-800, performing flight FR-5562 from Alicante to London Gatwick, went around reporting flaps problems while on approach to London Gatwick. The crew entered a holding to troubleshoot, but declared PAN later reporting the problem could not be fixed. The crew managed a safe landing on runway 26L with emergency services on stand by. The aircraft was ferried to Ryanair’s maintenance base Stansted 6.5 hours later.
Ryanair – Riga – 2009
On 17 January 2009, a Ryanair plane declared emergency due to a cabin pressurization problem and diverted to Edimburgh as a precaution. The pilot deployed oxygen masks, but the use was not required and the passengers disembarked normally.
Easyjet – Basle – 2008
On 29 August 2008, the Easyjet plane coming from Berlin and going to Zurich, had to turn back due to a landing gear problem. Very few informations were given to passengers and only in german. The company did not help or took in charge any hotel to spen the night while the delay overpassed 20 hours.

Ryanair – Granada (Spain) – 2008
On 20 September 2008, a Ryanair plane flying from Milan to Granada (Spain), was striked by birds and had to turn back shortly after takeoff.

Easyjet – Copenhagen – 2008
On 23 August 2008, an Easyjet plane flying from Berlin to Copenhagen declared emergency reporting smoke on board while approaching Copenhagen. The airplane landed safely at Copenhagen, passengers disembarked normally. The captain said they had smoke in the cockpit but no trace of fire was found.

Ryanair – Malta – 2008
On 13 September 2008, A Ryanair plane coming from Luton (UK) and going to Malta suffered technical trouble and diverted to Rome Ciampino. The same plane resumed the flight and reached Malta with a 5 hours delay.

Leave a Comment On the 23 August 2008, an Easyjet plane had to make an emergency landing in Nice (France) after the crew reported smoke in the cockpit. The plane was en route for Cagliari, from London with 130 passengers. A stewardess had to be taken to hospital after suffering for breathing problems.The incident seemed to be caused par an “electrical problem”.
